I write today to ask for your help.

Nicaragua is experiencing social unrest reminiscent of the revolution in 1979. And once again, the Nicaraguan people are on a crusade to confirm the democracy of their country. Their voices are met with repression, yet they persist. As must we. 

The US State Department’s travel advisory urges all travelers to reconsider travel to Nicaragua and the Peace Corps has pulled its volunteers. Similarly, all of the service-learning and mission trips scheduled to travel to Nicaragua with Comunidad Connect this year have been canceled. Yet the Nicaraguan people remain, and they still need our support. In fact, they need it now even more desperately than before.

National transportation strikes are making food, fuel, and other critical resources scarce, and our partner communities are struggling to find and afford the items they need most. As other organizations like ours are closing throughout Nicaragua, we hope that our network of support will ensure that our programming continues. Your financial support can have a significant impact. For example, $50 provides primary care and medicine for one of our 25 special needs patients, and $100 enables us to provide supplemental food to a family for a month. $200 funds a home improvement project that includes a day’s pay for a local builder and assistant. In these critical times, any amount you can give will be greatly appreciated and impactful.
